The Story Behind His Sound

Benedict Ong is a classically trained pianist, educator and accompanist. He was born in Singapore and started taking Piano and Violin lessons at the age of 6 and 7 respectively. Before entering LASALLE to pursue a Degree in Music, he obtained his Diploma in Aerospace Engineering at Temasek Polytechnic. Benedict also received his Diploma ATCL in Piano performance, under the tutelage of Mrs. Helen Ong at ‘Opus 3 Music and Arts’ while pursuing his Diploma education. Benedict recently graduated with a a Bachelor's Degree in Classical Performance at LASALLE College of the Arts, under the tutelage of Mr. Allan Fuller.

Notable performances by Benedict during his time in college were the 2020 in-house Piano concerto competition where students have to compose their own cadenza, LASALLE's 2020 Open House, Valentine's Day Concert @ Esplanade Library and LASALLE 2021 Piano Voyage VII: The Museum of Musical Refection. He also participate recently in 2021 LASALLE Lunchtime Concert Series: ‘Will it Classical?’ and Piano Voyage VIII: A Night at the Opera. Benedict was also an accompanist for the dance department at LASALLE for the 2020 Chopin Music and Dance Collaboration.

Outside of school, Benedict has also taken part in musical competition and masterclasses to further enhance his musicianship. He has won the platinum award at the 4th Overseas Performer Festival and was the star award recipient for the 4th Overseas Performer Festival, he was then invited to perform in the Gala Concert @ CHIJMES. He was also a finalist in the 2021 Ars Nova International Competition. Recently, he also took part in the 3rd Le Petit Performers’ Festival 2021 held by SMTA and was awarded platinum award by Dr. Abigail Sin. Aside from taking part in competitions, he also had the opportunity to attend masterclasses by artists such as Richard Ormrod and Melanie Spanswick.

Benedict has also been teaching piano and accompanying violinist for the past six years to students ranging from toddlers aged three years old, to senior adults. He hopes to reach out and enable his students to cultivate a passion and love for music. His future prospects include pursuing his postgraduate studies overseas in Music Performance, after completing his degree at LASALLE. Benedict is also motivated to become a professional performer who tells stories, and transmits emotions with his music. He strongly believes that through music, he is able to convey unspoken thoughts and emotions. With that, he hopes to capture audiences with his sound, and sincerity with the piano.
